The front cover of this wooden photo album is made of African Makore, sometimes called African Cherry. This is a huge tree, sometimes reaching 200 feet in height with a 4 foot diameter trunk. This particular piece has a highly attractive, mottled figure. The entire cover is highly figured, which is more visible on the top portion. Bright solid brass hinges. Instructions included.

The back cover is ebonized Walnut. A wash is applied which contains iron oxide (rust) and apple cider vinegar. This mixture reacts with tannin in the wood and blackens it. A nice contrast with the front cover, giving the entire piece a festive and colorful appearance.
Here is a closer look at the binding detail. The center strip is removed to allow for the pages that can be added. The other 2 Padauk strips are left in place to "sandwich" the pages between the top and bottom cover. If more pages are added, the strips can be removed to allow for them, or only a center strip can be used with pages on either side. Instruction sheet included.
