Black
walnut is a member of the Hickory family, and is highly prized for its
dark-colored true heartwood. It is heavy and strong, yet easily split and
worked. Walnut wood has historically been used for gunstocks, furniture,
flooring, paddles, coffins, and a variety of other woodworking products.
The fruit (nuts) are also prized for their flavor.
Here is a closer look at the binding detail. The center strip is removed to allow for the pages that can be added. The other 2 strips are left in place to "sandwich" the pages between the top and bottom cover. If more pages are added, the strips can be removed to allow for them, or only a center strip can be used with pages on either side. Instruction sheet included.
