Lazy Susan available for immediate

It is unknown where the term "lazy Susan" came from exactly. It is highly unlikely to be a reference to an actual person. Some suggest that it was common for female servants to be named "Susan" and the name became a synonym for a servant, with "lazy" referring to the fact that the spinning table does not go anywhere or say anything. More likely it came from a manufacturer as part of a marketing ploy. I have read that the lazy Susan was invented by Thomas Edison, and was supposed to be named after his daughter for some reason. However, Thomas Jefferson is often attributed as the inventor of the lazy Susan in the 1700s. The term "lazy Susan" made its first written appearance in a Vanity Fair advertisement for a "Revolving Server or Lazy Susan" in 1917. Prior to that time they were called dumbwaiters.
My wife's grandparents had a large family, as many
people did in the early 1900's, and the lazy susan on their old table
rotated on large rod that passed through the table to the floor, and was
almost 6 feet in diameter ! Using one like that was fun for the kids
and was easier than saying "please pass the potatoes".
A Lazy Susan is a turntable placed on top of a table to aid in moving food or condiments on a large
kitchen table or counter top. They come in many sizes and shapes, but are usually circular. The most beautiful Lazy Susans in the world are made of wood,
and are a welcome addition to every kitchen.
